Meet Dr. Andrew Lampley

  • oral ketamine treatment psychiatry
  • Hello! I’m Dr. Andrew Lampley, a California native born and raised in Orange County. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Neurobiology and a medical doctorate (MD) at the University of California, Irvine. My fascination with the human experience led me to complete a Psychiatry residency at Kaiser Permanente Southern California where I held multiple leadership positions, conducted quality improvement in Women’s Mental Health, and was honored “Teaching Resident of the Year”. During and after residency, I continued my training in the subspecialty of Interventional Psychiatry which includes ketamine, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS; dual-certification), and fellowship for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) at Duke University School of Medicine. I am board-certified under the American Academy of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and a member of the American Society of Ketamine Physicians (ASKP). On my free time, I enjoy running, food (of all kinds!), and spending quality time with my loved ones especially with Reese (our junior dog; pictured below).

I feel most fulfilled when I can make others happy, and when I put in earnest efforts to continually learn and grow with the intent of helping others. That said, being in the mental health space has been incredibly rewarding and brings me excitement every single day :)

My approach

It is a privilege to have someone meet you for the first time, share deep thoughts & emotions, and allow you to give them feedback in a meaningful way. I choose to honor that privilege by staying curious, humble, and make an effort to go above & beyond for patient care. Many years of education led me to specialize in what is known as “Interventional Psychiatry", an emerging field that utilizes alternative treatments when traditional pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic treatments have failed. This includes ketamine, a commonly used anesthetic that has demonstrated the remarkable ability to provide rapid relief for a variety of treatment-resistant mood disorders (since the 1970s). A landmark trial recently published by the New England Journal of Medicine revealed ketamine’s efficacy equaling to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), which is regarded as the most effective treatment for depression (Anand A et al. 2023). Clinical evidence continues to support the use of therapeutic ketamine as a safe, effective, and potentially life-saving treatment.

Mental health treatment has a longstanding history of stigma, and ketamine is no exception. To address this, I opened my clinic to educate our community while decreasing the impact of our ever-growing mental health crisis. It is deeply fulfilling to see patients improve in providing care that is rooted in science, detail, and the human connection.

With my expertise in combining good psychiatric care with modern approaches, I intend to provide you (or a loved one) with mental healthcare that is experienced, well-thought out and personal.

To the friends I’ve met in clinic, thank you.
